During the past three weeks of blogging, I have learnt the following things:
(a) I am not aesthetically pleased by my big toes.
(b) Nail varnish will gradually start to chip if you don't replace it.
(c) Vanity is folly.
(d) Nevertheless, making a new website using pre-pregnancy photos is a good motivator.
(d) Losing weight is not that hard if you stop eating.
(e) Especially if you don't eat cakes like this one, which I made this week:
(The recipe for which is here. I didn't add the chocolate curls on top.)
(f) The commenters on this blog are very kind, funny and supportive people, despite my erratic posting record and current obsession with weight.
(g) Necessity being the mother of invention, I am now the proud inventor of a delicious vegan chocolate milkshake. It's very healthy, yet ridiculously easy to make.
For this, you will need to visit your local Whole Foods and purchase the following ingredients:
Unsweetened soya milk (promise you can't taste it) - one glassful
Agave nectar (like honey, but tastier and healthier) - three tablespoons
Raw cacao powder - four heaped tablespoons
Chuck all these ingredients into a blender, blend for five seconds, pour into a glass, then exclaim, "Bugger me, Ariane was right - this was worth spending an extortionate amount on fancy ingredients for!"
I've been using it as a kind of vegan meal-replacement Slimfast. And it works just as well if you substitute strawberries for the chocolate.
Just don't substitute banana. You don't want to end up like James.

I admire your baking efforts and general metamorphosis into a domestic goddess. Will there be a cookbook out in time for Christmas?
And is that a finger mark on the plate where the cake's icing has overflown? Nah, can't be...
Thanks for the recipe, but I'll give it a miss, now if you're putting together a bacon and egg sandwich!
Fret not about your chubby toes, they look nice with chips, mmmm, back on food again eh!
We await your latest musing with anticipation, the wait between discourse only sharpens our eagerness.
your toes are fine.
@Graham: That is indeed a finger mark. Not mine. I like to think of it as a mark of the cake's irresistability, rather than a blight on the photo, but it's probably the latter.
@Pete: "Fret not about your chubby toes"? I wasn't until you said they were chubby! But glad you like the blog posts.
@Anonymous: Thank you for cancelling out Pete's comment!
Your baby is going to have a sweet tooth. I want to try that cake.

Wow... I laughed so hard I almost busted a (c-section) stitch. I better be careful when reading your blog posts. BTW, so glad you're blogging again =)
@Guillaume: I'd post you a slice, but it might get rather smooshed by the time it reaches you.
@Alessa: I used to think I'd bust my stitches too, but you won't, no matter how hard you cough or laugh! Hope you're recovering well.
I guess I'll have to bake one myself.
It's not that hard, though I've found that it's essential with cakes to follow the instructions to the letter. If you make it, do let me know how it turns out.
I am terrible with baking cakes. But I'll try.
