Happy Snaps

My friend Graham is the best photographer I've ever met in real life, and I've met a few. He also happens to be my best mate, but that's an academic fact you shouldn't take into consideration when appraising my opinion. Just look at this beautiful photo:

(This also happens to be my daughter, but that's another academic fact you shouldn't take into consideration.)

Graham came down to London this weekend to take some photos of Lily. She turned six months last Tuesday, so I thought it would be nice to document her half-birthday. Graham made Lily feel so relaxed, she even showed him her favourite toy:

And, even though I haven't been feeling great about my baby weight, he made me feel so relaxed I was happy for him to take this photo:

I think he should turn professional, but he thinks I'm just saying that because I'm his friend. So if you agree, do leave a comment below.

They are great pics. Which camera did he use?

I purchased that very same Fisher price Jungle gym for a friend's baby and how quickly it was outgrown!

That's very kind, but it's quite easy to take beautiful photos when you have a beautiful subject. She really is lovely. And I was amply rewarded with delicious banana cake.

Photo 3 is is bit oversaturated - I think I need to calibrate my monitor!

Darn it, my original comment didn't go through. Let me see if I can remember what I'd written...

Oh my goodness, her eyes are stunning! She's gorgeous. Graham did a wonderful job. There's lots of money to be made in baby photography (you saw my posts on the subject).

And, Ariane, you look amazing too. You have no reason to feel insecure or unhappy with your appearance.

Simply beautiful: baby, mom, and photos!

Does she have red hair? In some pics she looks like she has, the one when you hold her. Maybe because I am thinking of pumpkins tonight... I'll nickname her Pumpkin anyway!

And did I say she is uber cute?

@dantheman: It's a Nikon D700 with 24-70 lens. A good camera doesn't make a good photographer but it certainly helps.

Well, perfect photos of perfect models...
Graham is a great photographer, because he can produce this positive feeling of trust and comfort between the three of you, not because of his Nikon camera. I found out that a big single reflex camera like his can turn a lot of faces into stone. But maybe he hesitates to turn his talent into a profession, because then he would have to stimulate this positive aura with people he does not necessarily know and like.

Thanks to Graham we all can tell - like Alessa wrote above - how amazing you look right now. So Graham really earned his banana-cake.

Banana-cake? Still loosing weight? How does that work? Making the cake and watching the others eat it? I mean, that would be uber catholic! Or eat a piece of cake and nothing else all day? That would be - um, well - I leave that up to you to explain this kind of magic. I´m envy to read about it;-)

@dantheman: It is a great camera, but I'd be rubbish at taking pictures with it. I think you need an eye for composition and detail as well as great equipment.

@Nick: I dunno, I'm hoping she'll use it till she's at least two, though that might be wishful thinking!

@Graham: Glad you liked the cake. I took it out early to keep the moistness. (I should do that with all cakes really.)

@Alessa: He really is a brilliant photographer, isn't he? And that's very kind of you (though you didn't see the photos I made Graham delete!)

@Guillaume: Thanks a lot. She does have a red tint to her hair, though I'd say it's mainly light brown.

@NoGodZone: You're absolutely right and very perceptive - Graham doesn't want to work for other people because then he'd have to produce work he didn't like for people he didn't necessarily like. By keeping it as a hobby, he gets to do exactly what he wants. I can see that, and yet I think he's so talented that the rest of the world's missing out! Re. the cake, I have a very small bite of each (just to test for flavour/texture). I'm slowly learning to do things in moderation. It's getting easier the more I do it.
